Fond du Lac, Wisconsin

A welcoming and friendly city of 43,000, Fond du Lac is consistently named one of the safest metropolitan areas in the United States. Thanks to its location on the Southern end of Lake Winnebago, Wisconsin’s largest inland lake, Fond du Lac is a haven for boating, fishing, water-skiing and in the winter, ice fishing. If you feel like a day trip or a weekend adventure, Fond du Lac is just an hour from Milwaukee, an hour from Green Bay, and two and a half hours from Chicago. In 2019, Fond du Lac was rated the 4th best city for dentists.*

Culture

Fond du Lac is home to the Thelma Sadoff Center for the Arts (THELMA), the cornerstone of the arts and entertainment district in downtown. THELMA is a regional venue for high-profile concerts, exhibits with prominent artists, and independent films. Families can also enjoy art, science, music and maker programs at our interactive children’s museum, and visiting one of our many historical sites.

Education

The Fond du Lac school district consists of 10 elementary schools, 4 middle schools, Fond du Lac High School and an alternative high school for at-risk students. If your family is looking for private schooling, Catholic and Lutheran education schools are available as well. Our district also provides a STEM Academy (Gr. 3-5) and STEM Institute (Gr. 6-8) charter schools which focus on project-based learning in science, technology, engineering, and math. For our youngest learners, we offer a four-year-old kindergarten program at 5 elementary schools and 14 child care center sites.

Fond du Lac is also home to three colleges: Marian University, University of Wisconsin-Fond du Lac and Moraine Park Technical College.

“I love the sense of community in Fond du Lac. We have great schools with lots of opportunities for our kids. If you’re into community service, there are many groups to join or volunteer. And our arts center creates so much enthusiasm for music and culture!”

Sports and Recreation

Given Fond du Lac’s location on the southern tip of Lake Winnebago, it’s no wonder that water is a major focus of our outdoor fun. Lake Winnebago is considered by some to be the sturgeon capital of North America and is the home of free festivals and activities all year-round. Lakeside Park features over 400 acres of playground areas, carnival rides, a petting zoo, and numerous softball games. Swimmers can get their laps in at Taylor Park Pool, an Olympic-size outdoor pool in a beautiful park with six 50-meter swim lanes. During the winter months, your family can enjoy lap swimming and swimming lessons in the indoor Family Aquatic Center.
