Wisdom Teeth Recovery

Wisdom teeth recovery time varies depending on the case

The recovery time after wisdom teeth extraction will vary from patient to patient. In general, it takes anywhere from a few days to one week for initial pain and swelling to subside. The gums are typically fully healed in about one month.

Your oral surgeon will provide instructions to assure a successful recovery, including tips for minimizing swelling and medications to alleviate any pain and discomfort. You should also be careful not to aggravate the affected areas while they heal.

Here are some things to avoid to ensure a full wisdom teeth recovery:

  • Drinking through straws
  • Eating solid foods
  • Brushing vigorously
  • Picking at the stitches

If you’re worried that your wisdom teeth recovery isn’t going as planned, please contact your Dental Associates oral surgeon to discuss your concerns.
